Further Education & Research

The duration of further training in cardiology (FMH cardiology) is 6 years and must be completed at recognized training centers. The 6 years are divided into 2 years of internal medicine and 4 years of specialist training. At the end of the training, a specialist examination (oral and written) must be taken.

Since July 1, 2022, the new training program of FMH has been valid. It is available online in German or French. It is supplemented by a learning objective catalog in German and French. Most of it is available under further training for cardiologists.

An e-logbook (German or French) must be kept in order to obtain the advanced training title in cardiology.

The specialist examination takes place once a year. It consists of a written (English) and a practical/oral part (German or French). The date and location of the exam will be announced on the SGK website.

The ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines on various cardiological topics assist in everyday practice with evidence-based decision-making.
